I am a Senior Naval Architect and Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experience.

I can utilise additional resources via a small network of associate organisations as and when required.

Work History

I held the position of Technical and Engineering Lead within Shipping at the AAD.

My role was initially to act as owner’s representative for the design and build phase. In later years the role was focused on the technical performance of RSV Nuyina.

I was contracted by BMT Nigel Gee to bid, win and project manage the design of two large catamaran car ferry designs working in association with Strategic Marine in Vietnam. The first ferry (a pair) was a 70m aluminium LNG fuelled Ferry for a Dutch Operator. The design phase ran from Mar ‘16 to Jan ‘17 with a team comprised around 20 personnel at its peak. The second ferry was an 85m steel/aluminium catamaran for a Scottish operator. The team size was around 10 persons and ran from Dec ‘16 to Oct ‘17. Both vessels are now in service in Europe.

I was contracted to assist QinetiQ with a new start-up commercial venture expanding their defence hydrodynamic testing expertise into the commercial sector. After evaluation QinetiQ decided not to enter commercial markets.
The most significant project was the conversion of a 108m container ship to an AMSA certified livestock carrier. I also worked on the statutory documentation for the lengthened DEV Aratere for Interislander. During my time at Lightning NA, I also worked on two ferry concept designs as well as some smaller stability, structural and expert witness consultancy projects.
I worked as a Senior Naval Architect on a short-term contract initially project managing the refit of yacht ‘Saluzi’ followed by working on the refit of Dona Amelia (ex. Haida G).

I was employed as a Senior Naval Architect, being involved in a variety of projects including:

  • Project managed the basic design of a 120m cable laying ship.
  • Project team member for INCAT 050 (Manannan) conversion for IOMSPC.
  • Design and Construction of 3 * 62 metre Ro-Ro ferries for Wightlink.
  • Project managed the concept design for lengthening of 2 * 75 metre Ro-Ro ferries.
  • Technical support for several ferry fleets in the UK
